Interviews with British Columbia mayors

Unlike most other elections in Canada, British Columbia’s mayoral elections occur on a fixed cycle — the third Saturday in November, once every three years.

For the 2011 election cycle I was able to interview the mayors of the three biggest cities in the province, none of whom are facing a particularly tough battle for re-election, but are still interesting political figures nonetheless.

Mayor Watts of Surrey and Mayor Corrigan of Burnaby are expected to coast to a particularly smooth third and fourth term, and only face token opposition. Mayor Robertson’s battle is only slightly more uphill, and he faces a determined opponent in the form of Councillor Suzanne Anton, whom I’ve also interviewed.
