Articles about the monarchy/republicanism

Monarchy is an issue I feel strongly enough about to have written many articles devoted to the topic alone.

The monarchy paradox: if it’s so great, why do we all hate it? June 29, 2010

In the winter of 2007-2008 I tried to blog fairly continuously about the monarchy, inspired by the fine work of my friend Lewis Holden, who is head of the republican movement of New Zealand. I was head of the British Columbia republican movement at the time, but none of these articles were authored in any sort of official capacity and reflect only my own views.

The monarchy, the Conservatives, and the future, November 20, 2004

This was an article I wrote in my early university days, back when I was trying to formulate a coherent theory of conservative republicanism. My thinking has changed a bit since then, and this piece now comes off much more libertariany than anything I’d argue today. Still, I think it has some worth.
