Californian Governator Arnold Schwarzenegger was in Canada this week as part of a “green tour” across the country. Mr. Arnold is very proud of the California government’s recent environemantal reform iniatives, and his trip north was supposed to be something of a summit with like-minded green leaders in my country.
However, as many Canadian pundits have quickly pointed out, Schwarzenegger’s iniatives, which include a firm promise to reduce greenhouse gasses by 25% over the next 13 years and implement strict new restraints on car emssions, represent a far more progressive agenda than anything currently being done by any leader in Canada- conservative or liberal. Prime Minister Harper and Ontario Premier Dalton McGuinty have come under particular fire for contrasting negatively with the Republican governor, as their administrations have both been rather foot-draggy on the whole “reducing emissions” front. Here’s a good editorial on the matter.
