Stephane Dion does not appear to be paying off for the Liberal Party. A new poll released the other day shows that Prime Minister Harper is dramatically more liked by Canadian voters. Even the pro-Liberal Globe and Mail ran a lead headline yesterday declaring “Tories surge on Harper’s leadership.”
Harper outpolls Dion on every question of leadership, and significantly, Dion does not even hold a lead when voters are asked which man is more trustworthy when it comes to the environment. That issue had previously been considered Dion’s saving grace.
The Liberal Party had some interesting people running to be its leader, but they ended up settling on the most establishment of all the leading candidates. Hopes were high, but now comparisons are being made to Stockwell Day, another Canadian party leader with a notoriously short honeymoon. Read more
