An African millionaire named Mo Ibrahim has come up with a novel idea to promote good government in his homeland- a $5 million cash prize for the continent’s best ruler.
The leaders will be evaluated according to eight separate categories, including democracy, rule of law, and economic freedom. Along with the five million, the winner also gets to donate two million to his favorite charity. Panelists include Nelson Mandela and Bill Clinton.
The first winner will be chosen at the end of 2007.
