South Korean foreign minister Ban Ki-Moon is poised to become the new Secretary General of the United Nations next week. Almost all nations of the Security Council have stated that he is their preferred choice to replace outgoing Sec. Gen. Kofi Annan.
Usually choosing a Secretary General is quite a contentious manner, with much debate. Mr. Ban seems to be unusually popular, which is an ominously positive sign.
