High and Dry

High and Dry

Last week the National Post, Canada’s second-biggest newspaper, ran a cover story which claimed that Iran’s government was planning to force Iranian Jews to wear yellow identifying tags on their clothing while in public. A very shocking story, but it turned out to be untrue. Other journalists were unable to verify the author’s sources, and the paper ended up having to publicly apologize a few days later.

The Iranian government has predictably lashed out against Canada for the slip-up. Indeed, it’s quite a blow for western journalistic integrity overall. You just know that from now on any negative reporting about Iran will be easily dismissed by the regime as “fabricated propaganda from the same people who brought you the Jew story.”
