Yesterday Peter MacKay, the foreign minister of Canada, declared he was “pleased” that his country was elected to sit on the UN Human Rights Council. The Council is a new creation, and will replace the disgraced UN Human Rights Commission of yesteryear.
It doesn’t look like many of the underlying problems with the old system have actually been addressed, however. All the dictatorships I drew in this cartoon were chosen to sit alongside Canada as full members of the Council.
