Combat Compromise

Combat Compromise

Canada sent troops to Afghanistan in the immediate aftermath of 9-11. Since then, no one has really paid them much attention- what all the focus on Iraq and all. Recently, however, the “why are we in Afghanistan” debate has started to flare up, largely in response to an increasing number of Canadian casualties.

The leftist NDP and Bloc Quebecois seem to be flirting with calls for an absolute pull-out. At the very least, they are strongly opposed to Canadian troops being engaged in any “combat” missions.

Though my comic makes it seem like Harper will have to appease these two parties in order to keep the troops in, in reality he has said that he will decide the future of the mission himself, and not bother involving parliament at all.
