Well, despite my predictions, the Conservative Party actually narrowly won yesterday. So Stephen Harper will be the new Prime Minister of Canada. Like Martin, however, he will be a minority Prime Minister, so it’s unclear for how long he will be able to govern.
In the meantime, however, I find it interesting in the last year or so, anti-Iraq, anti-Bush, and anti-American parties have generally done quite poorly in elections around the world. It’s a good sign for the United States and the Bush Administration, as they now have an increasing “base” of support among western leaders, Mr. Harper now being the most recent addition.
