The much anticipated Gomery Report was released to Canadians yesterday. Over the last few months Justice Gomery has been presiding over a lengthy investigation of the infamous “Sponsorship Scandal” affair, a high-profile political scandal that basically centers around the ruling Liberal Party laundering millions of Canadian tax dollars into the party treasury.
Gomery’s findings have largely exonerated Prime Minister Paul Martin from any wrongdoing and have instead singled out former Prime Minister Chretien as the guy who deserves most of the blame. However the critics are quick to point out that Mr. Martin served as finance minister for the entire Chretien administration. To believe that Martin was as ignorant of the whole scheme as he claims to be thus requires a rather large leap of faith. Read more.
