For a while now, overzealous vigilante-types in the US have been patrolling the Mexican border. They seek to keep illegal immigrants from flooding into the country by any means necessary, including the occasional shotgun blast. Their principle argument has long been that such vigilante actions have become necessary, as the US government is not maintaining adequate border security in the first place.
Critics have alleged that these “minute men” are just bigots who hate Mexicans. No doubt partially in response to such criticisms, in the last few weeks the vigilantes have started to appear at the US/Canadian border as well. While there is obviously no massive flow of illegal Canadian migrants to the US to stop, the rednecks are helping raise awareness of the fact that America’s northern border remains one of the most poorly guarded in the world.
