The latest political scandal to come out of the Banana Republic of Canuckistan is this high-profile case in which this one Conservative Member of Parliament is alleging that agents of the Prime Minister tried to bribe him into defecting from his party mere days before the crucial confidence vote. Apparently, buoyed by the whole Belinda thing, Paul Martin’s people tried to buy off MP Gurmant Grewal with promises of a Senate seat, cabinet post, or an ambassadorship for both him and his wife.
These sort of allegations are old news in Canada, but what makes this case interesting is that Grewal actually recorded all his encounters. The tapes and transcripts were released yesterday, and parts of them are quite damning. You can check out the goods here.
