Yet more ongoing turmoil in the Canadian parliament. In the last few days the Conservative and Bloc Quebecois parties have taken to simply passing resolutions to close parliament the second it opens each morning, thus preventing the House from getting any work done. They are doing this to protest the fact that the Martin government refuses to step down and call elections, or at the very least hold a second confidence vote.
Some are now demanding Governor General Adrienne Clarkson get involved. As Canada’s chief executive, she technically has the power to fire Martin and call an election. But somehow I don’t that that’s too likely to happen with THIS Governor General.
