Many years ago, the Canadian military helped liberate Holland from the Nazis. It was a proud moment for the nation. Since this year is the 60th anniversary of VE Day, Prime Minister Martin was expected to go to Europe to partake in the festivities.

Martin had originally cancelled the trip. He worried that if he went to Europe the other party leaders would no-confidence vote him while he was gone. But after a big public outcry, Martin folded and agreed to go after all. BUT, he only agreed to attend if the three leaders of the other opposition parties came with him.
