Friday was the 30th anniversary of the Communist takeover of South Vietnam, and thus was widely commemorated around the world as the day that concluded the long and painful Vietnam War. As you may recall, the North Vietnamese Communists killed millions of people and fought for years and years in order to establish a Marxist regime that would unify both countries. This was apparently really, really, really important to do, because ALL Vietnamese HAD to live under Communism and this could never be compromised.
But now, 30 years later, whoops! The Communist leaders of Vietnam have now decided that capitalism is actually a better system for making their country rich and successful. Sorry dead people! Our mistake! Here is an Economist article about it.
