US House Majority leader Tom DeLay continues to be in hot water over his myriad of scandals, including, as of late his veiled threats to curtail the independence of the nation’s judicial branch. Many Republicans are now distancing themselves from him.
Meanwhile, in my country, the inquiry launched by Judge John Gomery into the Liberal Party’s little money-laundering ring is proving to be no less embarrassing for Prime Minister Martin. Every day new revelations are coming out detailing how the ruling party has quite brazenly been using taxpayer dollars to directly fund itself over the past few years, and the allegations of systematic corruption continue to grow and grow. So embarrassing is the scandal that several Liberals are even making noises about ditching the party, and that’s something you almost never see happen in Canada.
