Regardless of your faith, there is a lot to respect in the life of JP2. Though obviously regressive and conservative in many official matters, this pope was likewise a man who traveled to more countries, met more people, and spoke more languages than all his predecessors combined. If nothing else, he dramatically raised the bar for what is expected of a true “world statesman” in this era of globalization. The world community was a richer place because of his presence.
