For the last couple of years America has banned the import of Canadian beef, due to an isolated case of Mad Cow disease which was found in an Alberta cow a while back. We Canadians all were outraged that the US government would have the audacity to ban ALL of our beef based on one pesky little cow, and for years the Canadian government pressured President Bush to lift the ban.
Last week, finally, the US ban was about to be lifted. But the very day that was scheduled to happen, another case of mad cow turned up in Alberta. It was quickly followed a few days later by another case. Bush says he’s still committed to lifting the ban, but suddenly the “illogical” ban doesn’t seem so illogical after all.
