In the wake of Arafat’s death a lot of columnists, politicians, and pundits have been eagerly trying to “spin” the man’s life story to make it sound more inspirational / heroric / pleasant.
I’m sure you’ve heard or read some of the revisionism by now. Arafat was a statesman who dedicated his life to the plight of his downtrodden people and was tireless in his vallant efforts to provide a better future for them etc etc etc.
Phrases like “terrorist leader” and “siphoned millions of tax dollars into his own Swiss bank account” are cheerfully omitted.
