In the past, a lot of Nobel Peace Prize winners have fallen from grace due to their various shenanigans. Yasser Arafat is of course the most obvious example.
This year’s Peace Prize winner must have set some new kind of speed record for making the committee regret their decision. The day after Kenyan enviro-activist Wangari Maathai was awarded the prize for her tree-planting work, she publicly began to spout off paranoid conspiracy theories about how the AIDS virus was created by “evil scientists” in the West to “punish blacks.”
Actually, she’s apparently been saying these things for quite a while now. The prize committee either didn’t bother researching her very carefully, or just didn’t care. Another fine job there, boys.
