The big news story out of Canada this week was that dumb MP woman who called the Americans “idiots” for their missile defense idea. She just been in a meeting of fellow Liberals in which they had apparently been discussing their opposition to the Star Wars plan. She then proudly predicted that Canada would join the “coalition of the wise” rather than the “coalition of the idiots” in opposing the plan.
Because of Canada’s location, the US wants Canada to help with the missile defense system, and set up some bases and radar and things of that nature. Many members of the Liberal Party are quite in a tizzy about this for some reason. It’s not going to cost Canada anything, and it will keep Canada safe, and it will affect Canadians’ lives in absolutely no meaningful way. Much like the Iraq war, Canadian politicians seem to oppose Star Wars simply because it’s something George W. Bush wants, although unlike the Iraq war in this case, Canada’s opposition might actually have some consequences.
