But it’s not a race

The Iraqi governing council has dissolved itself prematurely, and Iraq now has a Prime Minister. A new President has also been named, and he’s going to take office formally on the June 30 handover of soverignity.

It’s quite amazing when you think of it. It’s been little over a year since Iraq was invaded and Saddam was deposed, and yet in less than 30 days the country will be self-governing again. Back in the 1940′s, General MacArthur and his occupying force stayed in Japan for over six years before turning over soverignity. When you consider the remarkable legacy that occupation left, it makes you question the emphasis this administration is putting on the speed of the transfer.
