The President of the Iraqi Governing Council was a Shiite Muslim named Ezzedine Salim who also served as the head of a body known as the “Council for Islamic Revolution in Iraq.” As the name suggests, the CIRI was a radical body, dedicated to the implementation of hardline Islamic law in Iraq, and the transformation of Iraq into an Iran-like theocracy.
Anyway, he was killed by a suicide bomber on Sunday. I don’t really understand the terrorists anymore, not that I ever did. In a saner world, I would have assumed a man like Salim was considered a “good guy” to Islamic extremists, for he toed their party line pretty well. But I guess not.
I suppose the plus side is that maybe the terrorists will all just kill each other off after a while.
