Though he still won’t tell us exactly when it will be, Prime Minister Paul Martin is already loudly announcing that the coming election will be the “most important” in our nation’s history.
The subtext is obvious. For once, the Liberal Party has a chance of losing, and as a result Mr. Martin will do his everything in his power to portray the Conservative opposition as a band of lunatics bent on the very destruction of Canada itself. Liberal Prime Ministers are always so full of their own self-worth that they have a hard time wrapping their brains around the concept that the country can possibly survive without their leadership.
