Prime Minister Paul Martin became the first Canadian PM in history to meet with the Dalai Lama of Tibet this weekend.
Previous Prime Ministers had avoiding meeting with the Dalai to avoid angering China. Canada cares a lot about China’s view of our foreign policies for some reason.
In the days leading up to the meeting China tried to talk Martin out of it, calling the Dalai Lama a bad example, and comparing him to a Quebec separatist.
