Certain members of the religious right in the United States have proposed passing a constitutional amendment that would forever ban gay marriage in the United States. President Bush has remained coy as to whether or not he would support such a move.
Constitutional amendments are extremely difficult to pass in the United States. In the last couple of decades there have been no less than three proposed, but none of them came even remotely close to being ratified. I will not hold my breath for this latest one.
