Prime Minister Jean Chretien is from Quebec, the French-speaking and French-dominated Canadian province. His predecessor, Brian Mulroney, and his predecessor Pierre Trudeau were all from Quebec, as well.
With Canadian leadership virtually monopolized by the French province, it shouldn’t come as much of a surprise that Canada will often side with the French on issues such as War with Iraq.
