China got a new leader on Friday- President Hu Jinatu. As the former Vice President he directly inherited the office from retiring President Jiang Zemin, and in doing so participated in the first peaceful transfer of Chinese power since………. some ancient King died a long time ago.
Hu is also the leader of the Chinese Communist Party, an institution that seems to be abandoning any traces of Marxism and is instead evolving into a run of the mill authoritarian regime.
