With talks of the new Department of Homeland Security and the Justice Department’s latest legislative victory, both Governor Tom Ridge and Attorney General Ashcroft are in the process of slicing up the existing US security departments in order to comply with their new demands for “broader powers”.
Not that I blame them. The current security administration is a real mess. I mean, a significant chunk of departments responsible for homeland safety report to the Treasury Department, for God’s sake! Last time I checked, they were supposed to be in charge of printing money, not protecting us from terrorists.
