The recent Ukrainian election has left the country badly polarized. All of the country's western states voted solidly for the pro-Western Yushchenko, while the eastern ones voted overwhelmingly for pro-Moscow Yanukovich. So divided is the country that some partisans on both sides have started openly calling for the nation to be split in half.
