There is some ongoing controversy as to Saddam's fate one Iraq becomes independent on June 30. Many members of the American occupation team would seem to prefer to keep him locked up in their super-secret secure army base, as opposed to just blindly handing him over to some unknown Iraqi government. The Iraqis, for their part are so eager to try (and I assume, kill) Saddam, they want him in their hands as soon as possible.

And now the two parties are trying to hammer out some compromise deal, where Saddam stays in physical custody of the US but in "legal custody" of the Iraqis... Just give him the bloody firing squad already, I say.
